As early as 1943, with Dougherty on Catalina Island, Marilyn improved her fitness by working out with free weights and machines. A 1952 Life photo feature shows her stretching and using barbells.
    In later years, Marilyn slept in a bra to maintain breast muscle tone; she also told a friend that she put on a bra immediately after lovemaking.
    In her last years, Marilyn apparently was taking hormonal injections to delay the effects of aging. She also took to wearing gloves to protect her hands.
